Beautiful Côte d’Azur

In the south of France, you will find the Côte d’Azur – 120 km beaches and coast from Cassis near to Marseille up to Menton at the border to Italy. The climate is very mild, with temperatures between 13 and 18°C in the wintertime and up to 28°C in summer.

The beaches at the Côte d’Azur are getting crowded in July and August when the French have their summer break. It is best to travel in spring or autumn to really enjoy the beaches with warm weather and loads of sunshine.

The region in France is known for glamour and luxury. Rugged mountain tops, medieval cities, and azure ocean water are what people attract here every year. If you want to experience the complete coast, you should start in Nice. Right next to the Italian border the city with its tiny bistros in the narrow streets will show you the feeling of the Côte d’Azur. You can walk up to the “Colline du Château” and will have a perfect view over the city and the Baie des Anges, the Bay of Angels. If you are already in Nice, you need to see the flower market at the Cours Saleya, with its unique selection of fresh flowers.

Just a short drive down the road you will get to Antibes. This town was founded by Greek merchants and the walls of the fortress can still be seen today. While you are exploring the picturesque small town, you will come across grey-yellow defense towers. This building is the Musée Picasso, where you can find out everything about the most famous son of the city.

Adjacent to Antibes lies Cannes. The heart of the Côte d’Azur shows glamour and luxury in every corner of its streets. If you want to see the hustle and bustle from above, you should go to the church “Notre Dame D’Espérance” where you will find an amazing view over the city.

If you are searching for tranquility within the busy towns and cities, you need to see Èze Village. This tiny village in the mountains was once home for Friedrich Nietzsche, while he wrote the third part of “Also Sprach Zarathustra”. You can walk up the mountain and follow little signs with quotes from Nietzsche or take the bus to drive you up the steep hill. In the village, you will find houses made of stone in medieval times, small archways overgrown with flowers, and the Jardin Exotique. This little park is a place most people dream of. Small water plays are splashing while you can enjoy the most amazing view down to the oceanside.

Menton is the last town of the Côte d’Azur. It is known to have an Italian flair and is famous for its lemon liquor. Menton is a small town between the French Alps and the seaside, with loads of historical buildings and a unique harbor.

Even though the region is not quite long, the culture and history can be seen in every town. It is worth having a look left and right while you travel here because there is always something to discover.
